This Last Stand Weekend, January 18th-20th.




Come Together: 2nd Art Wars show @ The Emerald Lounge - I reviewed the first show last year [Link]. It was a curiously strong show. Be prepared, the lighting is noir, sometimes you have to look over tablefuls of patrons to see the art -- and it is worth it. Jenipher Chandley, Chuck Majewski, Derek Donnelly  and Auralieus Artist. Opens Friday, January 18th, at The Emerald bar, 550 Central Ave. Free admission.

Artistry in Motion: An Urban Arts Expo @ Artissin - Earl Grae will handle the vibes, spoken rap performance by Pedro El Poeta, live graffiti "battle" and art. Owner Austin has broad connections with street artists and is steeped in t he culture. All at Artissin, 2313 Central Ave. $5 admission.

Farming, Family, and Folk Art: Ruby C. Williams @ Gallery 221, HCC Dale Mabry - This Central Florida artist has shown at The Smithsonian Anacostia Museum in Washington DC, been awarded a Florida Folk Heritage Award and many other accolades. Her roots go deep in Floridian history and she will be showing a wide variety of work. The show opens on Monday, January 14th. The opening reception is on Thurs. January 17th, 5-7 PM. Gallery 221's director is familiar with Folk art, so this should be good. All at HCC Dale Mabry, 4001 W. Tampa Blvd. Free admission.

Rocky Bridges @ HCC Ybor - Bridges is a mostly metal mixed-media artist. The reception is on Thursday, January 17th.  4:30-7:30, with the artist speaking at 6:30. HCC Ybor, 2204 N. 15th St. Tampa/Ybor. Free admission.

Burning Passion @ Duncan McClellan Glass - The official grand opening of the Hot Shop at DMG glass. Art Taco was the first publication to get the tour, back when it was mostly empty and under construction. Recently, I ran a picture of a glass bowl that had just emerged from a kiln. Now, it is ribbon-cutting time. Also, Distant Visions II will be on exhibit, with Latchezar Boyadjiev, Robin Grebe, Dorothy Hafner, Noel Hart, Gabriele Küstner, David Patchen, Doug Randall, Martin Rosol and Peter Wright. Also on exhibition will be the works of Fritz Dreisbach, recognized as one of the pioneers of the American Studio Glass Movement.

 Join Duncan and his crew in this celebration of years of planning, considerable investment and extraordinary effort in this new wellspring of the arts in the Bay Area and the world of Glass. Saturday, January 19th, 7-9 PM. Ribbon-cutting at 8:00 PM. Free admission. 2300 block of Emerson S.in St. Pete.
